6 - Global Trends (Programming, Streaming, Online, Social, or Gaming)
TikTok has very quickly become one of the most popular social media platforms in the United States and all over the world. With over 100 million monthly active users in the country, it has surpassed platforms like Twitter, LinkedIn, and Pinterest in terms of user engagement. TikTok is a great platform to reach bigger audiences because of its algorithm and there is so much fun and creative content being posted on TikTok. Me and my friends are using TikTok daily and I can't see that changing in a very long time. I am a content creator and video editor for SAU Athletics and I have been able to use TikTok to learn how to master the camera and video editing. I am also using it to get inspiration and get new ideas for my videos and content creation.
One of the main reasons for TikTok's popularity is its viral content and trends. TikTok's algorithm is designed to surface content that is engaging and interesting to users, regardless of the creator's following or popularity. This means that even creators with a small following can create content that goes viral and reaches millions of viewers. This has led to a proliferation of popular trends and challenges, from dance challenges to lip-syncing to popular songs.
TikTok is primarily an entertainment platform. and users turn to it for a fun and entertaining experience. The platform's short-form video format is perfect for bite-sized, easily consumable content that can be enjoyed in a matter of seconds. Additionally, TikTok's content is often humorous and relatable, making it appealing to a wide range of users. Every single time that I go on TikTok and scroll through my "For You" page there is always many videos that I find interesting to watch. There has never been a time that I have went on TikTok and did not like the content that I was watching.
TikTok has become particularly popular with Gen Z audiences, who make up a significant portion of the platform's user base. According to a recent survey, 60% of TikTok users in the US are between the ages of 16 and 24. This demographic is known for their love of social media and their desire for authentic and engaging content which TikTok provides.
TikTok's integration of music into its platform has also been a key factor in its popularity. Users can easily add popular music tracks to their videos, which has led to a proliferation of viral music trends on the platform. Additionally, TikTok has helped to launch the careers of several up-and-coming musicians, who have seen their music go viral on the platform. One example of this is one of my favorite singers, Lauren Spencer Smith. I found her music thanks to TikTok and so many others also found her music thanks to the "For You" page on TikTok.
Influencer marketing has become a popular tactic on all social media platforms, but TikTok's approach is unique. TikTok influencers often create content that feels more organic and authentic, with a focus on storytelling and creativity. This has made influencer marketing on TikTok particularly effective, as it doesn't feel overly promotional or sales-focused.
